Areas of Impact

To break down our Net Zero 2030 strategies, the Palmer Fund has selected impact areas in alignment with Drawdown and the Eagle County Climate Action Collaborative. The impact areas represent broad categories of existing emissions and opportunities for reduction. Within every impact area, the tactics most relevant to Eagle are prioritized.

Energy Supply

The Town of Eagle benefits greatly from Holy Cross Energy as our electricity provider. During his tenure on the Board of Directors, Adam supported decarbonising the grid. The Palmer Fund sees solarizing existing buildings and partnering with Holy Cross Energy on microgrid development as priorities related to our energy supply.

Buildings

Because Holy Cross Energy intends to provide 100% renewable electricity to the grid by 2030, the Palmer Fund supports the electric conversion of existing buildings and net zero codes for new construction.

Transportation

Transportation is our greatest source of emission in Eagle and the sector is prime for disruption through innovation. The Palmer Fund supports electric ready infrastructure (charging stations), programs to take the highest polluting cars off the road, and innovation in public transportation.

Waste

One of the first efforts led by the Palmer Fund is the push for Curbside Composting in Eagle. By connecting the dots between the Town and Honeywagon Organics, the Palmer Fund has helped to lock down a launch date of October 1st 2022.  We need over 200 more households to register for the program! Contact Honeywagon today! When you enroll in the dropsite program, you will automatically be rolled over to curbside on October 1st.

Water

Residents of Eagle are lucky to live near the headwaters of the great Colorado River, and as such must be great stewards of this resource. To reduce water use and associated carbon for pumping and cleaning, the Palmer Fund advocates for Turf Buy Down programs that accelerate the transition from yards to xeriscape and for the solarization of the Town’s water treatment facility.

Food

The Palmer Fund understands the daily food choices have an immense impact on the climate. We advocate for sustainable food purchasing guidelines for institutions and increased opportunities for plant based dining at Eagle restaurants.

Land Use

Within land use, the Palmer Fund had identified increasing soil health to fix nitrogen and store carbon and decreasing sprawl to manage density as priority tactics.
