Land Use Panel with the Town of Eagle

We are excited to kick off the Palmer Fund's first of six sector area discussions.  Thank you for participating in what we hope will be an engaging and inspiring discussion on Land Use.  The Town of Eagle has a rich history when it comes to open space policy and planning.  Here is a thoughtful summary from our former Open Space Director, Brian Lieberman.

So what is the best way for the Town and it's residents to act on the land in 2025?  Kim Schlaepfer will present some priority solutions that she has encountered in her land use work as a consultant with Lotus Engineering.  We hope you will see that the way we steward lands has an impact on our GHG portfolio in town.  Laura Bohannon will present second and make the connection to the Eagle County Conservation District and their work on behalf of the 14,000 land owners in Eagle County.  Laura can give us a peek into her world of standing up new programs and staffings as an organization in growth, and how these new programs will impact the community going forward.  Finally, Hugh Fairfield Smith will share his story as a wildland fire fighter, discussing land use strategies the Eagle River Fire District employs to fortify critical local assets like water tanks, communication towers, and buildings.  We hope to hear from him about which plants hold more water, which plants sequester more carbon, and which plants allow for improved habitat.
